Icon2 replacing d16y7 won't start

my brother in law blew the motor in his 99 hatch(d16y7) so i got him a motor out of a 97 civic(d16y7) put it in his car last night and wont start. its getting fuel, good compression, and its getting spark but not good spark its like and orange color. anyways he says the wires on the dizzy have different plugs that go on to the car harness. could this be the reason it won't start because the dizzy plug-in's are a little different. i thought these motors were the same 96-00. so much help would be appreciated thanks..

thanks for the info. got it running today finally he had the timing off. he had it pointing at the arrows but when he tightened the belt it was not in proper time. so anyways long story short best $100 spent on the motor with 120k miles.
