power restoration
hello everyone. i have a 2000 5th gen prelude and i feel like its not making all of its original power. its got almost 215k on it so i know its lost power over the course of its life but what should i do to return the engine to original? is it as simple as an oil additive or fuel additive, or do i really have to tear down the entire thing and replace the rings and hone the cylinders? im eventually gonna replace the head gasket, oil pan gasket (it leaks), and give my car a tune-up but i just want to know what is recommended. keep in mind im on a pretty tight budget so cheap fixes are preferable at this point. thanks.
cap/rotor - spark plugs - spark plug wires - clean the egr ports - clean the vtec solenoid screen - timing belt - water pump - auto tensioner/or go manual tensioner - head gasket - any other oil leaks - use some seafoam - check to make sure your valve seals are not leaking (if so get them replaced) - consider replacing both 02 sensors as well and maybe your cat
That's just a list of things you COULD do, cheapest would be cleaning the solenoid screen and egr ports. Followed by new plugs/wires/etc and go from there.
You don't really have to replace the rings unless you do a compression test and it turns out bad.
