Toe, Camber, all these jibberish.....
CAn anyone PLEASE PLEASE explain to me about TOE and camber and other things that r affected when lowering a car? i kinda have a sense of what CAMBER is but no clue about toe and other good stuff thank you very much
ok when you lower you car, believe it or not TOE will eat your tires faster than your camber. when you get an alignment done, they will adjust the TOE and CASTER settings, and maybe the rear camber if it is adjustable.
well anyways here are my definitions:
CAMBER = if you look at your car from the front and rear, you will see your wheels tilting in like this /***\(negative camber) or \***/(positive camber)
TOE = if you imagine looking your car from the top, you will see your wheels either pointing in towards eachtother like this / *** \ (toe in) or outwards \ *** /(toe out)
CASTER = well this one is kind of hard for me explain without a picture, its basically the angle of your turning radius in comparison to your wheel...umm im sure someone can clear this up for me.
so remember, when you lower you car...make sure you get an alignment b/c a bad TOE setting will eat away your tires quicker than bad camber.

To determine caster, first draw an imaginary line through the upper and lower ball joints. The angle made by this line (the steering axis) with another imaginary line drawn perpendicular to the ground (the centerline) is the caster. If the angle between the steering axis and centerline is toward the front of the car, caster is negative. If toward the rear of the car, caster is positive. caster plays a large role in determining both steering feel and high-speed stability. Hope that helps

There is also Thrust, in addition to Camber, Toe, and Caster.
To better understand caster, imagine your car from the top, and each of your axles is a radius in the diameter between your front wheels. Now picture one of the wheels beginning to move around the circle that that diameter makes. That is caster--the angle the wheel points with respect to the perpendicular angle the other wheel makes with the axle (radius). Confused yet? Good.
On Accords, caster is not adjustable without some sort of ghetto rigging.
Go look at the wheels on a shopping cart. they have extreme ammounts of caster, and you know how they handle.
just a little thing that cleared up for me what caster is and what it does. hth
