when i go to start the car it dont want to run but if i give it gas when starting it fires up but then i kinda gotta stay on the throttle for a few seconds for it to stay running but then its fine. car has been sittin a lil bit i threw a rod n swapped this b18b1 in an this is how it starts ?

 

what year is the car? what year motor?

 

If after you have it running and shut it off for a few minutes will it start right up? If its a sitting overnight thing then it sounds like fuel flooding.

 

Any vacuum leaks? When's the last time you did a tune up?

 

Try this, turn the ign. on to the run position, not start, and wait till fuel pump stops priming and CEL goes out, turn ign. off and then on to run again, again wait untill pump stops priming and CEL goes out, and cycle ign. switch again, do this 3-4 times, on the 4th time, when fuel pump stops priming, try and start the car, what happens, engine starts, [without touching gas] you still have to "give it gas", [nothing changed]? 94
