Default No longer hear vtec crossover after turbo install?

So i just got my b16 back from a shop today that finished my turbo set up and street tune.

long story short

-When the car was NA the vtec kick was hard, very audible (5800rpms)
-After turbo install I no longer hear vtec crossover (tuner said he lowered crossover to 5100rpms, i dont hear it at 5100 or 5800)

I don't know if its just me, but even like 1/4 throttle in 1st, not the sligtest bit of "grunt" after 5100

Is there a way to check if its working with basic tools at home? I cant contact the shop until monday

thanks

unplug the solenoid and see if you notice a drop in power above 5100

the vtec may not engage until a higher point at light throttle angles.

will definately check those out but another question

is the sound of VTEC mainly intake//exhaust, or engine?

because after the turbo install, everything sounds kinda muffled on my car. its atleast 2x quieter than before. if it's intake//exhaust the sound comes from, maybe thats why im not hearing the crossover

A turbo will muffle sound like a muffler would do. You prolly dont hear your crossover anymore because of this or all you hear now is the wastegate and turbo.

or the fact that when your tuner tuned it, found that there would be a smoother transition and better powerband with vtec lowered than when it was audible (or "cracked" as you young people call it)

Some of the best turbo setups you won't hear VTEC crossover at all.

^^^

oooh thats makes a lot of sense. the tuner who also did all the work on my car seemed VERY knowledgeable and i doubt he would have let something like that go unoticed

i did not know where were points where the vtec "kick" is louder than the other, and the car still feels like it pulls hard, you just dont hear it as agressively anymore

thanks, i guess that clears it up!

Yes. Maybe you should talk to your tuner? I mean, were you there for the tune or did you just drop it off with money? But regardless what you did, ask the guy who tuned your car for answers. Most likely he will answer all your questions.

I know with the s300 set up that was in my ITR, VTEC wouldn't engage unless I was at a certain throttle percentage.

Not to mention that B16 cams dont have a whole lot of audiable difference to begin with and once muffled by the turbo and intercooler and charge piping and lowered from 5800 to 5100 you wont hear it at all.

In fact on my setup im running CTR cams and you cant hear vtec at all. Meanwhile on my good friends setup he is running itr cams and you can hear his vtec loud and clear. i contribute it to vtec engaugement point along with im running a smaller wastegate and dumptube and an E cover turbo vs his S cover turbo and much larger wastegate and dump tube.

You would know if vtec wasnt working. i would nose over after 6k rpm very quickly.
