Default Brundells first turbo build d15z1/y8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update 3/31/12

So Im updating this post because my plans have changed quite a bit. My initial plan was to put a y8 head on my d15z1 bottom end for a 8.1:1 compression and turbo it with a t3 saab turbo. Then I decided I wanted to go without vtec, so I got a y7 head off my old engine i sold, got a valve job and hot tank and milled it... Then today I ended up somehow coming across my old y7 block that was rebuilt with y8 pistons .50 over and decked, sooo i bought it back lol. So all in all i went from doing a d15z1 block with y7 head to a complete oem y7 rebuild. Should be easier now that im not dealing with a z1/y7 combo that nobody knows anything about.

What I have so far
y7 block (freshly rebuilt, with y8 pistons, new oil pump, water pump etc)
y7 head (fresh valve job and resurfaced)
s20 si trans (jdmstar.com)
Innovative mounts with black bushings
seimens 80 lb 875cc injectors ( Best deal $54 a piece)
255 lph walbro fuel pump
aeromotive a1000 fpr w/ fittings & b&m fp gauge
aem tru time cam gear
competition stage 4 clutch (6 puck sprung)
competition 9 lb flywheel
chipped p28 (j-k tuning)
hondata 4 bar map sensor
arp head studs
cometic head gasket
t28 turbo
vibrant intercooler
greddy type s bov

What I plan on ordering in the next few days. (let me know if you have any of this

y8 head
3 in down pipe
mini ram mani ( prolly go-autoworks)
2.5 in charge piping
tapped oil pan
oiling kit from go-autoworks
blox boost and a/f gauge

This is the car... A 92 vx, I'm gonna try to maintain its stock look. No big wings, just lowered and probably new wheels so I can run wider rubber.

Heres a picture from the day i bought it, minus the wheels (dad in the back ground lol)

Heres a pic of some of the goodies ive bought so far, Im gonna post pictures as I recieve and install parts.

competition stage 4 clutch and 9lb flywheel.

t28 turbo I belive, bought for $100 t3 flange .42 cold .48 hot side

S20 trans I bought from jdmstar.com... Sick of hoping for the best buying off craigslist

seimens #80 875 cc injectors and walbro 255.... Overkill I know but why not for $54 a piece

And a vibrant intercooler that I'm hoping will work well when it comes to the vitara set up.

This is the beginning. I plan on this build moving along pretty quickly, my goal is to have this thing goin strong for carlisle car show. The walbro has been installed and has to be sent back lol, and this weekend im installing the innovative engine mounts s20 trans and clutch/flywheel combo. Hopefully its driveable with 90 hp haha. The trans should help a little bit seeing the vx trans tops out at about 70 in 2nd

Thats all for now, hope to get some good feedback from you guys and Ill try n keep it goin at a good pace!

Sounds good! Turbo should quiet it down a little

My build plan changed alot, I decided to go with a y7 head rather then the y8, heres a pic of the y7 head outta my first honda engine ever that was pulled and replaced with a b16.

Hot tanked ,decked and full valve job.

\

I also made a purchase today 150 dollars... I found my old y7 block that the head came off from. Its bored .50 over , decked , brand new y8 pistons, brand new oil pump , water pump, new main seal and a freshly powder coated oil pan, with the deal I also got timing belt, head gasket, all gaskets, freshly powder coated valve cover and a set of eibach springs with ground control sleeves... Soooo Im basically the idea of going with the d15z1 block is getting kicked to the curb. Im gonna sell the whole z1 swap.

95CIVHB, I bought those injectors off ballengermotorsports, they cost me 54 bucks each and there high inpedence. I spoke with a couple diff people/shops about them because I was worried about the idle etc, and there all very confident that theyll work without any issues. Basically everybodys telling me they should be better then the rc/precision injectors which are all older technology. Hope theyre right!!!

siregcivic, What was your setup exactly? Your the first person to really tell me you had experience with that combo. How were you running 20 psi on it with a t3/t4 without any issues lol, because of the lower compression??? Im interested in your reply for sure, nobodys given me any feedback on that set up

@ brundell88 ....

i only really ran 20psi when i was racing people i had a home made boost solenoid setup, i had low boost which was wastegate at 8 psi, then i had high boost on the button which was 12-13 psi and i had race on a switch witch was 20 all made out of purge solenoids it was ghetto but worked great

and i had a d15z1 block with a y8 head use all d15z1 headbolts except for the 2 back corners i believe are gonna be y8 bolts i dont really remember its been a few years but ill post up some videos this is in a ej1 not a light car or anything like that

Sounds like a good setup, I was so dead set on doing that same setup because it was basically a low comp oem build. Then I got the chance to get my old block back rebuilt for 150 bucks and that Idea went right out the window. Looks like were going stock y7 now with a delta 272 cam and boost... Maybe I should keep the good ol z1 block around for back up???

Cool.. I'll be interested to see how they run for you. I need to pick up some higher flow injectors, and if they work well for you, I'll probably pick some up..
