Default Monkey'd up strut thread woes

Trying to change out from stock to GC springs we found one of the front struts top mount nut won't come off the KYB strut. The design has a flat spot in the threads to allow for a wrench however once the nut is high enough you can't hold the rod anymore. Also the adjuster is located on the top so there's no place for a hex wrench. The threads have somehow gotten monkey's enough that a couple of threads before the nut comes off its stuck and just spins the shaft of the strut. Anyone ever overcome this problem? After all we've spent on upgrades for this season I don't think I can afford another strut. I'll post pics in a second.

TL:DR
Top nut on KYB AGX strut stuck on threads need any advice on getting it off.

Everything goes easier if you've got an alien to help....

^^Yes
Use an impact wrench. It should come right off.

Yup no need for an allen, just use an impact and some short bursts should make quick work of your predicament.

what they said. Take the plastic part out also (if you can on the KYB's.. my tokiko's they had to come out). If the threads are damaged run a die down the threads to clean them up. But even a wrench and a tap of a hammer might be worth a shot... Just make sure the impact doesnt spin the shaft very much to keep the seals happy.
