Default question for maintenance

my em1 has gone to yellow for maintenance. the car is at almost 83k now.

the car has gotten
-Timing belt was done at 55k
At 71k:
-New drive belts
-New blower snout seal
-Replaced blower oil
-New throttle body gasket
-New intake manifold gasket
-New blower to manifold gasket
-New idler pulley
-All new vacuum hoses
-New NGK plugs

im wondering what should be done for this maintenance.

also starting today. the cars temperature is fluxuating. i noticed the temp would go to normal from first to fourth gear but once in 5th the temp would rise. really need help on this

any help is great thanks

First check if your radiator fan is working also you should change your Radiator cap every spark plug change

what you are missing is
-Radiator Cap
-Distributor cap and rotor
-OEM spark plug wires

i would also replace the cmashaft seal since those things original from honda suck badly

check radiator fans..
if they dont kick in than jump the fan see if the fan itself works
also check ur thermostat i bought an OEM one from honda for 12 dollars so it is cheap to fix

If he is in 5th gear when it starts to overheat, then it is highly unlikely that it is the fan. The air is going way faster by the car moving than what a rad fan can push.

Most likely the thermostat. If you replace that and it still gets hot, see how much flow the radiator has.

As far as maintenance goes.... What Wrona said, and I would also change the trans fluid. Use Honda MTF!

I don't see changing the radiator cap as important, but they aren't expensive.

Definitely do the cam seal. OE honda ones suck though, try a BLOX or Skunk2. Also do the VTEC solenoid gasket and distributor O-ring while youre at it.

anyone have a rough guess how much itll cost for maintenance from honda
for the cam seal distrubtor o ring trans fluid thermostat and spark plug wires?

Do it yourself, those are very simple to do. A $99 Craftsman tool set will have more than enough tools to do that.

got a quote from honda CRAZY!

32 for each spark plug
114 for wires
100 for labor

thermostat 32 bucks
labor 100 bucks??

and cam seal 700 bucks??

ima buy the parts and do it myself

Why would u go to honda to do this i used to work for a honda stealership... Sparkplugs 32 bucks each.. i don't even pay that much for my audi spark plugs which are iridium and theyre 8 bucks each



Copper NGK V-Power from autozone 2.29 Each takes literally 5 minutes to change you have to gap them to .044
Gap tool .99 cents

all of this will literally take you 1 hour at most since you have your valve cover off u might as well do a Valve Adjustment

and if you have not taken off your valve cover you'll need a valve cover gasket which Napa sells a good OEM Replacement and use a little bit of RTV you can get at a parts store most people here use HondaBond but its thesame stuff

also yes that would be helpful but if he doesn't have any tools what my buddy has is a 4mm-13mm 3/4 ratchet with an extension and he has 2 screw drivers and a pair or pliars and some vice grips and it was all 20 bucks from harbor freight and it still works

i dont no anyone at local shops, and if i dont do it myself i want it done right. also with my ex i have taken it to many little shops and they dont treat the car right, theyll rag on it and stuff. so im trying to keep my si right, but yea they are way over priced. the thermostat was 40 bucks...but i got it in, and car stopped fluxuating so im happy. thanks for the help guys!!

an hour labor to do a thermostat? jeez.... I changed mine in the dark in a driveway with a crap set of tools and was done in a few minutes..what a rip off.

32 for each plug? The plugs are 2 bucks....wtf? Honda uses ngk plugs.

They sound like my bmw dealership here. Went there for simple maint and they gave me a 2300 quote...did the work myself (with oem parts) cost me 135 bucks and about 4 hours of my time.

Stealerships......I loathe em.
