I've been searching around for a proper fix for this, though i'm still undecided. People keep saying that the Y8 oil pumps are **** for boost and they cause people to spin bearings. The fix would be to port/shim the pump, but I had several performance shops tell me they have had 0 problems with the Y8 pump and if I ported it, I would lose oil pressure and if anything I should shim it.

Then again, I heard of pumps failing because they been modified, same goes with the Toga aftermarket oil pumps.

Just curious on what route I should go, to stay with the stock y8 oil pump or modify it?

I'll be running a full go-autoworks turbo kit (d16y8 motor), eagle rods, vitara pistons, skunk2 intake mani, etc, probably pushing around 250-300whp. I don't want to swap out the y8 crank for a z6, but i'm also getting ACL Race bearings, instead of the oem ones.

 

I've read it was because the y8 has only one oiling port per rod where as the z6 has 2, but it seems there are people on both sides of the fence, so decide for yourself i guess

I've read that it should be ported as well. I'm sure people do run boost on them without being ported. It'd probably just be an extra precaution.

Also, just get OEM bearings. Just beacuse they're "race bearings" doesn't make them better. Think about it, OEM bearings last 200k+ miles.

 

Ported Y8 pump here. Where did you read that ported pumps fail? I never came across that so I'm curious.

My next build I'm using a Z6 crank.
