Hello honda-tech members, Last night i took off my front bumper to get it ready for paint and this morning when i went to move it, i realized that the speedometer and the odometer do not work. after going around the block, my check engine light came on. I wonder if it had to do with anything from the bumper but i doubt it. Please help.

 

i checked the under dash fuse panels and nothing is blown but i still changed them anyways.. does anyone know where the speed sensor is on the vehicle. Its a 1994 honda accord 5 speed lx thanks.

 

Raise the hood and find the VSS. On the Accord and Civic, it is located on top of the transmission housing (or transaxle) perpendicular to the axel of the vehicle, right below the fuel filter or the air intake tube. The electronic VSS on the Accord is mated on top of the power steering speed sensor gear shaft or simply a gear shaft. The power steering speed sensor (on some models) has a few steering fluid hose attached. Between the power steering speed sensor and the vehicle speed sensor is a drive link. If the drive link is broken or missing there will be no speed readings and the fault code 17 and 4 will show up.

 

thank you for relying, ill will check it shortly. Will the missing drive link cause the odometer not to work either?

 

speed sensor will be located on the transmission under the thermostat housing area. make sure it didnt get unplugged. though it sounds like something under the dash got unplugged. anything else not working

 

not its just the speedometer and odometer not working..but the check engine light will come on 15 minutes of driving.

 

Yes a missing drive link could cause failure in the odometer not to work if your speedometer doesnt work and odometer doesnt work im 99% sure its your VSS look below

 

 

 

i just took a look at it and It was still connected, i unplugged it to see how the connection was and it looked like it was in pretty good condition. Im just going to buy a new one and hopefully thats the problem.

 

so check this out. When i was on my way to my auto collision repair class, out of nowhere, the speedometer starts working along with the odometer. could it possibly be a problem with the weather because it was kinda cold today or maybe its just a faulty vehicle speed sensor.

 

Its the speed sensor VSS. I got the part from ebay and replaced. I dont have a scanner so i just unplug the ground (-) black* from the battery left it out for a minute and engine check light is off. Easy fix cost $15. Bring to shop will cost you $150 or more... good luck!

 

mine acts similar and i think it is a bad connection at my gauge or the gauge itself
