Default My EK B18C with B16A head turbo build

So i started my build a few weeks ago. I have the bay stripped down and the motor torn down as well. The plan is to have 500-550hp (but well see) when all said and done. I was hoping to get some feedback and insight from the wealth of knowledge that floats around this site. I followed California Dad closely through the build and have taken some great pointers from that being the target power is fairly close. With that being said the plan is to shave the bay and also build a monster motor. Here is the plan. Also, i am sending the block to GE tomorrow so this is a serious build and do appreciate any help i can get. I do want to mention the head is completely ported and polished already and has high compression valves from a previous NA build.

I plan on having the block sleeved/bored 82mm and run Arias 10:1 compression pistons. I also researched the PTW and found that a lot of ppl stray from the factory spec of .035 so i think i am going to do .0040 (what do you guys think?)

I plan on either going with Pauter rods or Manley Turbo tuff rods??? any horror stories or successes?

Hopefully the Shodan will kick in here and suggest the Turbo to use but thinking about the surfer or reaper.

i will have some pictures up soon but i wanted to get this started from the beginning. I have a lot of the sizing and spec done and will post as we go along.

Thanks in advance

Good luck with the build and I hope it turns out exactly as you wished!

As I'm reading this, I'm simply curious why the absolute necessity for 500-550whp, when it seems that the purpose of this car seems to be more of a street / response monster, that has the capability of about 440-500whp, and still have at least some level of responsiveness for this type of build. When you get past the 500whp, as even Californiadad will soon experience, control of the car (if this is still street used) and characteristics change -(as much as we don't want them to).

Am I correct? Is the purpose of this build the same as Californiadad's? please give a bit more detail of your needs for this build if you could, as well as supplemental components that are being used with this build.

Sorry i was out of town for work... Honestly i want the car to be a street car and be able to cruise around but do not plan on running max boost/max hp on a day to day basis. The "street" hp goal is approx 450-500hp but i do want the ability to jump the boost up on track day to get best results. I know driveability decreases as the power to weight goes up.

I have sent the block to GE and decided to go 84mm with 10:1 compression Arias pistons with a .004 PTW. block is most likely there as we speak.

God i keep leaving stuff out..... been a rough few days of sales training. I am planning on a calidad overall goal of having a successful build. I do not want to duplicate his build and want my own build and my own success. Driveability is a concern somewhat for me but the overall goal is to have the ability to have one of the fastest cars around during drag day but also retain the ability to drive the car day to day for fun. I also want to size the components to perfection as my profession is in a similar industry. I want the motor to run great and the turbo to be sized and and perform in the "sweet spot" of the map to eliminate excessive wear and have maximum efficiency. First turbo build so some of this is new.

Block is not back from GE yet. I need to get rod bearings and mains. I have figured out the mains but not the rod bearings yet. I have manley turbo tuf rods that have a 1.890" bore and the crank journal measures 1.771". I am not sure what to do here. It doesnt look like the oem bearings will work. Does someone else offer a smaller bearing?? Manley recommends min .002 and max .003 clearance.

Acl makes bearings that run a lil smaller (hx I think). Honda has some that run pretty small also can't remember which color. Worst case you could have a machine shop work the big end of the rod to where you want it so you get the clearance you want.
