Default Aftermarket stereo/no keyless entry?

Can Someone here please explain this to me, from what I do know, the 96-00 model year civic had their keyless entry/dome light in the stock radio, so removing that will in effect kill your keyless entry-

Now thru internet searching I have come across a few who say that this only applies to 96-98, and that 99-00 are not affected, others say all years are affected.

Now The trick is to, remove the stock stereo, lay it up behind the dash, then splice off the power wire to wire up the new stereo? and then hook up the speakers etc. right?

am I missing anything? I really really want a stereo with a usb stick compatibility, I drive a good 3-400 miles a week and the ease of having a usb stick / sd card to take with me would be a life saver. A little more push wouldnt hurt either. I also DO NOT want to give up keyless entry, unfortunately.

Thanks

There is an adapter you need to purchase that will allow you to install the new deck and retain the old deck which will have to be shoved behind the dash. I even have a spare one sitting on the floor right now. As far as I know it only applties to 96-98.

There's a version of this harness that is long enough to allow relocation to the underside of the trunk w/2 "L" brackets.

Not having done this, behind the dash (where - ?) may be perfectly acceptable. Food for thought.

so, if I have a 99 civic, I am in the clear, and there's no need to worry, I should just yank her out of there?

or the adapter only works with 96-98?

I keep finding different reports....some SI owners are saying they put in a aftermarket radio and the keyless didnt work, others are saying, they are working no problem.

I dunno if its hit or miss, or if its uncorrectly installing, etc.

If this is an unmolested vehicle, the keyless entry module for the 99-00 Si is in the driver's kick.

I had a 2000 4 door and my keyless worked after I swapped out headunits.

96-98 only, as the wiring inside the car changed in 99.

^ correct.

Also, what I did was leave the stock headunit alone, install the aftermarket one where the lower pocket (or OEM CD player) is.

I used the harness that allows you to run both, no issues in my 1997 Civic EX with keyless

The keyless system of 96-98 Civics is integrated into the stock radio. For 99-00 Civics, the keyless unit is located behind the driver's kick panel.
