Default distributor gave out?

96 HB with JDM B18C
was driving then car lost speed and motor died
tried starting it up, car cranks and everything
car jus wont stay running
sounds like distributor gave out
but cams arent rotating, basically belt is not moving
but a/c and PS belts do turn/rotate
basically, cams are not budging and no sparks on distributor
suggestions?

Are you sure the timing belt didn't snap

That would be a broken timing belt.

correct me if I'm wrong, but if he had already tried starting it and the timing belt or woodruff key broke wouldn't that mean that he possibly bent a valve during his trouble shooting?

Posibly but I don't think its that likely. broken woodruff key wouldn't bend a valve unless possibly it was the key to the oil pump gear

All Honda engines I'm familiar with are interference designs. Which means that if a valve is open when the piston hits TDC it'll make contact.

If you turn over the engine and the valvetrain isn't also turning, you're going to have contact when one of the open valves in one of the cylinders meets the piston. That's why you always replace timing belts before they break.

If the engine is turning over and the timing belt isn't turning, he's got bent valves and something related to the timing belt is broken. Woodruff key would be a good guess but until he pulls the side cover off there's no way to know for sure what's failed.

Yeah those crank pulleys never go down without a fight.

I'm hoping you got lucky on the valves.

i guess we'll have to find out. like they say, one problem leads to another lol
i totally forgot to have everything at TDC, so how much more frustration will i have to go through to get the timing on track again?
