Default Jack Stand Placement

Hey guys,

I know most of you think that this thread has been beaten to death, but I would just really like some good facts about it for my safety.

So after looking at this thread... (which is now closed)

https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/official-ef-crx-jacking-points-2307622/

It looks like this is the place to put the jackstands, but looking at the pinch weld, the jack stand cup is not deep enough to make contact with the actual car. Is this right to just have the car supported by the pinch weld alone? Will this not bend and beat them? I have seen many cars with some beat up weld seams and my guess is this is why its happening.

I have always used car ramps for my needs, but seeing as I need the wheels off, I'll need to use jackstands.

What do you recommend, under the factory jack points or some other structural component?

I have no problem with the actualy jacking, it seems very obvious to lift on the front and center support.

Thanks alot!

jacking the rear loop alone is perfectly fine and totally recommended. no problem, it will not buckle.

Hey,

Are you referring to the tow hook being stable to jack up?
I was wondering about the placement of the jackstands themselves under the 4 pinch weld support locations.

the points on the rocker panel are quite obviously reinforced where you should be supporting the car.

i dont understand why there would be any confusion.

I was just wondering because for the supplied scissor jack there is a groove that is made to fit the pinch weld and support the weight on the rocker panel itself rather than just on the pinch weld. It seems unstable to me to have the car supported by just the pinch welds.

Sorry if its a dumb question, I just want to make sure before I go wrecking my weld seams. Or worse, having the car come down.

The pinch weld is where several body panels come together giving it a bit more steel than the other parts of the body. It's also designed as a support area for the body. Just make sure the body isn't a rusted wreck at that area.

Right on, thanks guys. That gives me some confidence in putting my car up.

There isn't any rust at all on the car, so it should be fine. I'll just make sure to line them up nice and lower slowly.

Thanks again

You'll be fine, those points are strong. If you pull an idiot move and don't have the jack lined up right and it misses or slips the lift points, then you'll know it..... just go slow

I do not recommend the rear jack stand location at the pinchweld, if you are only lifting one corner. On both of my CRXs it started to buckle. I do either the trailing are bushing, or the subframe.

The real problem is for those who don't have lifts, you must jack than place your stand. So you need 2 locations. For the front I jack the cross member then stand on the subframe. For the back, I do subframe and trailing arm (jack/stand either).
