Default Lightened flywheels?

What do think about lightened flywheels for NA motors? I have seen conflict about lighter is better to lighter takes away torque. lets take a poll to get a good opinion.

Please do a search this has been covered many times before.

There's no downside, you won't regret getting a light flywheel.

i dont get it...It doesnt take away torque. It just has less rotational inertia.

your rpm will climb faster and you should accelerate somewhat faster.. lighter flywheel will alow you to better rev match...

if you're taking transmission out - replacing clutch or pressure plate.. might as well swap the flywheel

i also suggest to search for "flywheel".. many threads that cover that topic... very useful information...

let me just say this

i finally had the chance to install my CM flywheel (thats just over 7lbs) and ACT clutch, and well...its by far the best 300 i have spent on the car, i COULDNT be happier.

revs nicely, no problems daily driving it, and acceleration in the lower gears was greatly improved upon.

CM flywheel relatively inexpensive compared to most other flywheels and one of the lightest ones available.

I have a Spoon 9lb., I wonder if I'll want to go lighter later on?

Lightened flywheels will allow the engine to accelerate/rev quicker but when getting off throttle, the car will de-accelerate quicker since it has no mass to prevent the rpm's from falling.

Heavy fly wheel just smooths out the car when accelerating and deaccelerating.

If you lose torque you also lose horsepower. Why do people say lightweight flywheels make you lose torque but then also sometimes mention "freeing up power". It just doesn't make sense.

forget the torque crap.

all a light flywheel means is that wheel is lighter, so it takes less momentum to get it spinning, and less inertia to keep it going.

Toda
I've got a Toda. I first noticed that it reved a little quicker, but nothing crazy. Final drive gear swaps will have a larger impact on acceleration. The lightened flywheel will really help with rev matching though... pretty damn noticeable.

CM flywheel, jrsc, B18C, and superlight Black Racing wheels = hell of a car to launch.

For autoX, I absolutely love the FW. It makes revmatching happen the way it should. For drag, well let's just say I don't mind putting on the heavy wheels and slicks.
