Default d16 without turbo - thoughts on installing catch can?

Just wondering if you have to have a turbo to use a catch can. The way i understood was they just collect vapor from where the line that runs from the valve cover to intake mani.

Can you run one on a n/a motor. It will help and adds a look to the engine haha. Something like this maybe, no cf tho haha.

Also are they hard to install. Any help is great! Thanks everyone.

Yep, you can use it without a catch can-I do
^^
And no, they're not hard to install, it's just tough finding a good spot in our cramped engine bays to mount one

And before you ask, yes my motor is NA, and if you wanna say it's a stupid idea...wait till you use one and empty it during an oil change and realize how much crap would have been sucked into the motor otherwise

I feel it also helps higher-mileage motors cope with blow-by somewhat because they don't have to re-ingest that crud.

So to answer your question, YES it's perfectly fine to use one on a non-turbo car (or a higher-compression motor), and I believe they're beneficial to ALL motors in preventing the ingesting of blow-by solids/oil

It's good for all engines, it catches the oil vapors instead of feeding them into the motor again and gunking stuff up. And reduces crankcase pressures if you vent from the block. It's all around a good idea.

I have seen a box shaped one that goes where the battery goes I think, it's made by IPG I think, just google them, their site is ipgparts.net and it's like $180.

I made a catch can from a Coleman propane tank and a couple barb fittings. I bolted mine to my passenger shock tower.

Yeah, this is one of the few cases where making your own or simply going Ebay can be just as good for a hell of a lot less than buying a name brand part
XD;
Mine are both Ebay and work just fine

Just make sure to get one WITHOUT a breather filter or else you can get in trouble with emissions folks/cops, not to mention you'll constantly smell gas and oil fumes in the cabin
Sucking the fumes themselves back into the motor is mostly ok, as it leads to lower emissions and better gas mileage and all that.
You just don't want the semi-solid oil and liquid being pulled back into the motor to crud things up is all.

on a turbo car its more beneficial because they actually fill with vapor and sludge after a few k miles. in a N/a set up i have on my type S it barely fills if at all but i dont ride it as much to know for sure. but on any motor its better then re running those vapors back through the intake getting it gunked up. the can will act as a baffle/filter

Sorry to hack the thread but I want one of these on my b16a jdm motor, if I run one from the cam cover and the pcv valve the can will have to have a filter on it won't it?
