Hey everyone, I think I may be having a transmission issue. It seems to be getting worse and if at all possible, I'd like to get it resolved before any real/permanent damage occurs.

Problem Description
Some of these symptoms/sounds may not be an issue or even related, but I want to make sure I list everything.

In all gears, even reverse, when I let off the gas the transmission makes a rough gravelly sound. For instance, if I'm in 3rd and just completely let off the gas, this gravelly sound is pretty loud. Louder than my intake/exhaust, not that they're all that loud anyway, I just have a cheap ebay intake, stock header and an Apexi WS2 exhaust.

Recently, I was in 4th going about 35 MPH and heard the faintest hint of a whine. It reminds me of in-car sounds you might hear of a race car on a track, sounds cool, but not if it's not supposed to.

Today I was driving it again and the same gravelly noise is there, but now there is a very audible whine in both 4th and 5th gears. No hint of whine is heard in any other gear, but at any speed, 4th is the loudest, and 5th sounds like it did in 4th a week or so ago.

This is my dd so any help I can get would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Sounds like a bad bearing(s) in the transmission. Usually it's the input shaft bearing but not always. Have you checked the fluid level?

 

Fluid levels were ok in September when I last checked. I drained it and refilled it just to be safe.

I initially checked on it because of the gravelly sound it was making. In July of last year I replaced the throw-out bearing, but where is the input shaft bearing?

 

In the transmission where the input/mainshaft goes through the bell housing.

 

My DX transmission does the same. I am noticing some noise from the ISB at idle, and when decelerating in gear or above 4k rpm I have a noise that sounds like "gravel" as you put it. Whatever, if it blows I have my old crappy EX transmission to put in
