Default what to replace when...

So I thought it would be nice to have a thread with recommendations on what preventative maintenance should be done with different wrenching endeavors. You know, 'while your'e in there, replace X and Y, examine (and possibly replace) Z.'

For example, I've currently got my engine head removed. Obviously I'll be replacing my head gasket, intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, throttle body gasket, etc. But while I'm down this far I've been told to replace my thermostat (I can see why, it's RIGHT there, shining in the open), water pump, examine and replace my timing belt.

Any other suggestions for the head gasket job? Any other hints and tips you have for your fellow auto-enthusiasts to ease their days and pair their required work with helpful work.

^ rebuild head (if inspected and internals seem worn), cam/cams seal, dizzy O ring, water pump, thermostat, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, front main seal, head gasket, new ARP head bots, and basically a complete head gasket set. I mean you could just replace every gasket, O ring and seal you want it just matters if you got the straight kiosh.
