my exhaust is too loud?
so i got pulled over and the officer told me my exhaust is too loud. he told me to go to state ref to get the loudness tested free of charge. i called state ref and they told me there was a $108 charge. is there another place i can get it tested and get the ticket dismissed for free? i live in san jose, california btw
If the cop told you it was free of charge, I would take his/her word for it. Did you mention on the phone that you got a ticket? Sometimes the prices are waived if the test is required for a ticket.
For an exhaust ticket, it should just be a simple test and a $10 fee. SHOULD be. Tell the state ref that because that's what always happened to me. California is **** though. I recently got an exhaust ticket and I have a JDM ZC engine, so state ref wont sign off since its not a USDM (Cali legal) engine. Before local PD or CHP would sign off, but from what they told me when I went is now all modified exhaust tickets are all sent to state refs. I would still try a CHP station or local PD, but in the end its probably gonna be state ref or pay the fine unless you can somehow win in court w/o the decibel test
