Skunk 2 Valvetrain or ITR
Im building an lsv with gsr head. Will be my DD for a while. Ive been researching valvetrain and i like skunk2 cams, but i was going to buy ITR dual valve springs and retainers. Would it be a bad idea to combine them or just go all out with skunk2 valvetrain, but i need reliability of OEM. PLease any inputs would be great
skunk2 cams are recommended to only use skunk2 valvetrain. esp if its pro cams. tuners cams arent all tht great. dd lsv semi built id go with blox full valvetrain. thts wat im doing. cheaper and make good power. do more research.
tuner series still have their place in the scene, especially for those running mild setups and looking for durability.
then you recommend BLOX valvetrain... saving a few pennies on 1 of the most important area's in your setup and blowing up a perfectly good engine because of it.
to the OP:
- if your just looking for longevity (100k miles) get yourself a full ITR valvetrain/cams
- if your also looking for some power (but not as much for low/midrange) grab yourself some tuner2's and s2/supertech valvetrain
- if you want most power and you have the CR (12+), get some PRO2's on a s2 valvtrain. for sub 12CR get yourself some PRO1's instead.
this is just Skunk2, there are multiple alternatives!

thank you.. for a budget build blox id go with. for someone tht has the extra penny to spare id go skunk2 all the way. i was just stating tht blox is cheaper and you get decent power out of their products.
I'm just waiting for the other 2 boo-boos from K20A.org to pop in and start a big fight again, showing Blox's facilities in Timbuktu or something ignorant.
What is with the childish banter?
There are some sayings I have heard a time or two:
"Blox Off" - Knock Off
"Blox Power" - Blocks Power
"Building Blox Parts" - Kids toys/shouldn't be used in "real" engines.
Then again...
"JunkTOO" - Skunk2 is junk.
"BunkTOO" - Not quite sure what that jargon means.
"Skunk-Don't-Works" - Skunk2 parts fail.
"Skunk-Won't-Works" - I assUme: There are better alternatives.
Everyone has their opinions and there will always be "praisers" and "haters". Wade through the BS and make your own choice. If you can't make an intelligent one then do one of the following: Call each manufacture and see what they have to say (who talks a better game), buy both and run tests/compare them, pick one and run with it, or bring it to someone smarter than you and let them decide. Regardless of your choice - stop crying and making pointless posts about this topic.
I will make a few key points/opinions:
- If you want the reliability of OEM, hmmm lets think about this one, GO WITH OEM PARTS!!!
- My personal experience with Skunk2's products has been a "decent" one; Their customer service is leaving much to be desired.
- My personal experience with Blox's products has been a decent one; What technical support? (Read it with sarcasm.)
Again, this is just my experience - but what does this matter? For every 100 people that say "Yay", there will be 100 people that say "Nay". How many Honda enthusiasts do you see bashing Genuine OEM Parts? I think this completes the thread.
(PS - I know the OP already said he was picking up some OEM cams, I just wanted this here for people that have a similar question.)
