And get yourself a multi-meter

You can also look into - compression tester / Leak down tester

Is there an actual device that is sold that reads whats wrong with the car instead of counting and deciphering codes? That would be so much easier.

There's no tool available that will do that, though you can spend thousands on an expensive scan tool.

I have an on board diagnostic tool which didnt cost that much but it has 16 pins. The Civic has 2 pins I believe?

I don't even think there was a proper scan tool, even if you did have unlimited funds. I don't even recall seeing anything for OBD1 when I worked for Honda (their own OBD2 scan tools are something else though)

I should add that having a real scanner is nice, they will do a lot more than just give you codes, you can check freeze frame data, check things like O2 sensor response times and such that you just can't do with a paperclip.

As stated above...don't think their is anything like that. It's not hard at all to pull/count the blinks.

You know how to do that and have a multi-meter...it will do wonders!

The 16-pin tool is for obd2 cars and select 94/95 gm cars (they were early adopters of the connector but not the standard (those cars still spoke ALDL I believe)) Not sure if there is even any Snapon Brick support for early hondas, though supposedly there is a honda adapter but I dont guarentee that info. And if counting isnt your strong point, beer buys many friends who will count for you.
