I got off work today and walked up to my car and noticed my tail lights have some pretty major stress cracks.
There were some previous to this but nothing like this. Basically both of my rear tail lights have stress cracks popping up.

not worried about replacing just want to know why its happening.

Car is 2000 honda SI

Let me guess- you don't garage it. Sitting outside for 12 years will do that to just about any non-metal part on the car.

 

True. Exterior and interior require maintenance just like the drivetrain and suspension.

 

heat, cold, weather. The list goes on and on.

 

They may even have been removed at some point, then re installed and tightened to much

 

I garage the car but not when I work. It sits in a parking garage. I thought so too but this just happen last night. Not sure if it being 28 degrees outside did it or not.

 

Thats what I thought too but wasn't too sure.

 

this is due to weather over the years. direct sunlight. salt from the snow. it all has a major place. same as the headlights get that yellow crud on them. they need to be waxed just as much as the body of the vehicle.
