Default 92 CX Cheap Power options.

I planned on doing a GSR swap, but instead im just going to save up some more.

I did a search and didnt really find anything specific so im juast going to ask a few basic questions.

First, is the stock cx motor 8 valve or 16? Im thinking 8 because it looks identical to the CRX HF motor.

I was thinking about putting a SOHC VTEC head on the stock bottom end for a little extra power. Im getting sick and tired of getting traped on entrance ramps during heavy traffic

This 70 HP crap sux. I have done a mini-me swap on a d16a6 but never on an 8valve engine. I believe that I read somewhere that you need to get an adjustable cam gear to retard the timing so that you dont have valve lash.

Im also assuming that I will need to go with the 92-95 vtec 5speed ecu. I can get a SOHC head for ~250.00 w/ ecu. I guess I may need a distro also. I have the exhaust mani from a 97 civic EX which will mate the head fine.

Do you think that this setup would be a decent option for some power gain for someone with tight money situations? Anyone have this setup that wants to voice there opinions on the setup?

Thanks in advance!

-Steve.

I've been trying to get power out of my cx for a while now. Everyone will tell you it is pointless. Some say the best remedy is to get an Si/ex tranny. Good luck, and don't feel bad if you blow up the motor.

just get the d16z6 swap, then home made turbo. for half the cost of a GSR swap you can make 30whp and 60wlbft more
