.2L and .4L of displacement.[/QUOTE]

How is a b18 superior? Put a vtec head on a b20. As the above poster said, there is no replacement for displacement. There is hardly anything you can do (besides a total tear down and serious rebuild) to make up the difference in displacement.

We're talking 20-30whp and torque difference here.

I just thought he didn't put his foot all the way down but after looking back at it something is definitely wrong there.

so, i really don't know much like i said before, is there a good guide to Honda engines somewhere out there? that explains the different series (D, B, K, H, etc.) and the +'s and -'s of them, information on head's and block's, possible combinations of them, prices you should be paying, explanation of VTEC, best internal parts to build with (pistons, rods, etc.) and Miscellaneous Stuff (Ecu's, Harnesses, etc.) please and thank you

Everyone starts here but this is how you need to start. What do you want to do? Do you want a daily driver that's pretty peppy? Do you want a track car? Are you looking for a sleeper that blows Ferrari's off the road? When you figure out what you want to do then someone can help point you in the correct direction.

right now i have a 1989 stock honda civic std, that's changing very soon...

so i need chassis suggestions and motor suggestions

it would be my daily driver.

i really like hatchbacks but a coupe would work with me.

i do want VTEC

i honestly don't know what numbers to expect, i want to beat pretty much anything around my area (Utah), so atleast high 300's hp?

i want to build the motor first, then go forced induction.

so.. i'm not even sure if i want to build a honda, i was considering a Subie.. nothing new more like a late 90s/2000 2.5RS ...

so input anyone?

If you're looking for the 300whp+ range, you need to be in the Forced Induction forum.

No necessarily. A high compression setup on a b20 can do that. One of the guys in this forum Daily drives a 250whp b20vtec if i recall correctly. 300whp isn't impossible.

i know, but i want to go with an all motor build at first then down the road boost it, long term build.

so to get a B20VTEC would i have to swap with an already VTEC head? like a B16? cause i believe stock there are no B20VTEC's

It's impossible for someone who doesn't know the performance differences between B20s and B16s

OP, you're right, there are no stock B20-Vtecs, although it's a common build and you can find a lot of information about how to do one. However if you're planning on turbocharging down the road, you'll save a lot of money and time by skipping the all-motor build and starting right away on an LS-turbo or something similar.

i know i would probably save money and time isn't an issue, but i want to build the engine so when i do boost it i won't have to worry about anything blowing or throwing.

i know two kids at my school who boosted there hondas and one threw a rod and the other blew his entire block, due to stock parts and over boosting.
