00 Civic Si - clutch is feeling a bit to loose
Hey honda-tech. I have a slight problem, please pitch in if you could help.
My clutch is feeling a bit to loose as in while driving: it feels like i dont have a sharp clutch point. It just happened not too long ago mainly because i think i let my rpms go too high. I went from second to third fine & from third to fourth the tires got no traction so it went too fast up & so i might've shifted late into 4th gear. Did i possibly burn the clutch? Is it just the clutch? I can drive but it just shakes alot when i shift like my rpms drop & the car shakes to pick back up. please help.
& aswell does anyone know how i can tell what kind of clutch i have or recommend any if i have to change it?
i own a 2000 civic si. thank you

Well, rpms going up and the car not moving means the axles are out of the trans, or the clutch is slipping.
Not sure about the vibrations.
No way to tell what clutch you have unless you pull the transmission off.

What do you mean the revs went up too high? Your tires lost traction in 4th gear? You shifted too late out of 3rd? IDK what all that means. You mean that you shifted out of 3rd and maybe slipped the clutch into 4th ONE time? That's...not going to break your clutch by itself. Cars aren't that fragile.
However, I think that maybe your clutch might be worn. How old is it? How many miles?

Yes the clutch might be pretty old.
Sorry if you don't understand. I was hopping on the the xpressway so I needed to pick up speed. I stepped on it from 2nd to third & shifted well, & from 3rd to 4th it seemed to pick up fast like if the road was wet & I stepped on it. I noticed a bit of white smoke from my rear view. I just don't feel a sharp point on the clutch no more. & while I'm driving the clutch seems loose. Would I have to replace both clutch & flywheel?
Thank you guys for helping.

Well, if you replace the clutch, you should replace the flywheel, or get it resurfaced at the least by a machine shop or something.
White smoke = coolant burning btw. Not sure how it has anything to do with the drivetrain issue you are mentioning though.
Maybe try and adjust your clutch pedal? How does the clutch fluid look? Maybe it just needs to be flushed out and replaced?

The white smoke might have been normal condensation from flooring it in the cold...or could have been a puff of clutch smoke.
Op..how many miles on the clutch? If you replace the clutch, you should be able to resurface the flywheel depending on it's condition.

It sounds like your clutch maybe worn. I think the car appears to go. (Sound, and rpms moving) But the clutch is actually burning. Most imporant questions need to be answered.
How many miles are on the clutch, and are the tires spinning (burning out or whatever) when this is happening? You shouldn't be loosing traction in 4th on a 00 civic si. Assuming its stock.

Thanks for the help guys, im going to check the fluid in a few now that i have time, i havent been driving the car so that i wouldnt cause any more damage to the flywheel if it were to be the clutch. Me and my father are going to be changing the clutch, axles, & to be safe the head gasket aswell since i saw smoke.
Quick question on purchasing a clutch, how do i find the right one? is it according to the engine, transmission, or just a bseries clutch?
car has a swap but idk what transmission. will i be able to tell when i take out the transmission?
thanks again
