Default 95 sedan will not go into gear

I figured I should make a new thread since my last one wasn't too specific.

I have a 95 sedan, stock f22b2 with 257k on it.

I was at a red light the other night when I went to shift to first it didn't budge. The clutch pedal feels fine, and my fluid level is still there so it can't be the slave or master cylinder. the clutch was replaced 2k miles before I bought it, or so I was told (I've put about 11k on it since then)

Basically, the shifter moves freely, as if it weren't attached to anything, but when I had my girlfriend move it around I looked under the hood and I could see it moving around a little bit. So I'm lead to believe the problem is either in the shift linkage or the actual transmission.

If anyone has had this problem or know what I'm talking about any input would be great. I hope it's just the shift linkage, so if anyone know what I should be looking for please help a brother out!

I can see both parts of the shift linkage moving on top of the tranny when I have someone move the stick around, so I'm pretty sure my problem lies in the tranny or the clutch. But if the clutch went out would i still be able to put it into gear? I really want to make sure it's the clutch that needs replacing before I pull the tranny off, so if ANYONE could confirm this for me that'd be awesome.

I REAAAAAAAALLY need to get this fixed this weekend so if anyone could point me in the right direction that'd be awesome. I'm officially stumped, wouldn't I be able to put it into gear if the clutch was out? I can still start the car just fine, but i cant put it into gear.

So upon debates with my friends we came to the conclusion that it HAS to be the linkage.
-The tranny wouldnt give out on all gears at the same exact time
-If it was the clutch then I'd still be able to at least get into gear
-The clutch pedal is still stiff and springy so it cant be the slave cylinder
-There's no brake fluid coming from around my pedals so it can't be the master cylinder

Although, there is some kind of fluid leaking from around where the linkage meets the tranny. Which leads me to believe that's where my problem is. If there's any info you guys can give me about this please do so. Thanks for the help HT -____-

Not an expert....have you tried moving the levers at the trans by hand to rule out the cables?

No, but I'll give anything a shot at this point. It looks like there's something leaking around that area anyways, so i'm gonna take it apart and clean down there.

Sorry, best spit ball I had on this. I too find it strange, no signs of issues before, stop at a light, car in N, then try for first and nothing.....now no gear can be selected when car is off or on.....only other thing before dropping the trans, pull the console and look at the gear shifter lingage there.....good luck.

the clutch line also goes around the shift cables. could be leaking at the damper.

do both shift cables move when playing with the shifter?

im guessing the transmission is ok if you have the proper amount of tranny fluid. try adjusting the clutch mast cylinder pushrod to clutch pedal.

Both shift cables move, i just took apart the shift linkage on top of the tranny and everything is where it's supposed to be. I dont think the tranny fluid level would effect this particular problem, but it wouldnt hurt to replace the fluid since who knows how long that's been.

I'll check the clutch line again, cause when i was under the car there was a puddle of brake fluid like liquid on the ground, coming from around the back of the tranny/firewall area.

And how would one adjust the clutch master cylinder pushrod?

thanks for the help guys, means alot that at least SOMEONE has some useful input.

So my tranny fluid is fine, no metal scraps in there. still trying to figure this one out though.

Is there anyways to test if it's the actually tranny that needs replacing or if its the clutch?

any thoughts guys?

the shifter moves freely, i can hit all four corners and theres like no template to the gears. i can move it anywhere.

So the second cable that's connected to the shift under the console came loose. Put a new nut on there and it work fine -____-

My wife's toyota did the same thing. It was the clutch and the flywheel got flat on some teeth. Is it just a certain gear or all of them including reverse.
