Are 4th Gen heater controls a problem ?
Both my '91 and '92 had broken temp controls when I bought them. I put a new $35 control in the '91 2 weeks ago and it broke again last weekend. It snaps the plastic pin off the arm that moves the cable. I kept the old one and drilled out where the pin was and installed a machine screw the same size. They were kind enough to put a small hole in the center of the pin on the backside so you can locate the hole properly. I will be putting it in when my PSPEC shifter comes and I will also be oiling the valve in the engine compartment (should have done that the 1st time
). Already had the screw but they are about $.04 at the hardware store, beats the hell out of $35 but is still a pain to get to. Also grabbed a good used one and the heater valve from a wrecked '92 just in case. Just though I'd share that in case anyone else has had this problem.

not sure if theres a weak link (probobly is) but i've always been VERY GENTLE when moving my temp control...
every accord except mine (knock on wood) has a broken ****/cable it seems.

Yes I've gone thru about 6 of them, but if they go within a year you can take it back to the dealer and get a new one for free.
Sorry thought we were talking about the actual *****. Never had any problem besides the broken *****.

Yeah I thought it was just the cover as well. Sounds like the cars in questions were DX's with the horizontal arms moving the cable.

get in there and grease that arm up. had the same problem once, did that and haven't had it since. have a buddy twist the **** an d look for something moving. it should be a rod connected to a small arm (about 2in long i think) behind the engine about half way down and toward the passenger side. clean it and grease it 'cause it probably has some corrosion on it.
if you look by the firewall (near charcoal canister if you still have it) is a cable operated dingus on the heater core inlet.... mine looks pretty crappy and could cause some difficulty when moving the controls???
