Default How bad would a glasspack sound with stock piping?

Sorry i said the "G" word, don't laugh at me too much. But my stock muffler rotted off and im looking for something cheap just for now. Riding around with no muffler is ok until you get to that certain rpm range were it buzzes so loud it gives you a headache so i need something on there.

I hear people say glasspacks on civics sound terrible, but how do they sound when combined with a cat and a resonator? If its a bit noisy i don't mind, but i dont want a super farty buzzy tone. Opinions?

Stock D16y8 if it matters.

I was under the impression that a "glasspack" was simply a resonator with fiberglass as the sound absorbing material.

eBay for like $100 shipped get a catback. There's 2.25-3" ones online or maybe for like $150 you might find an oem muffler and pipe. Don't bother with the glass pack. Do it once do it right

It's going to be loud, I mean these are made chiefly by a company who's slogan is "disturbing the peace since 1968"

You could always just get a magnaflow chambered muffler. Or if you want it to look nice a Megan OE or a OBX twinloop would sound alright and not cost too much.

hell, even a vibrant flat black would sound okay. Just get the right piping diameter.

Turbo or superturbo mufflers are usually fairly cheap new, especially on eBay. They would look like a stock muffler because they're meant as stock replacement.

The glasspack may be ok on a turbo car since the turbo acts as a muffler itself.

Just go to Advanced Auto and buy a Thrush Turbo muffler. It'll cost you like, $20, and you can get it welded in by any exhaust shop for a little bit more.

My Stock muffler and resonator rotted off aswell and I replaced both with 2 glasspacks and as long as you keep a cat before it, will sound fine. Much better than any pos eBay exhaust. There not loud until vtec kicks and I've gotten several compliments saying that it's how a car should sound, not lick a coin in a tin can.

The Yonaka exhaust is a popular system on eBay, and sounds almost similar to the Apexi WS2. The Apexi muffler is a chamber muffler I believe, and the Yonaka is a straight through, basically a muffler shaped resonator.

The best option really is just to go to Advance or somewhere and find a universal muffler, and have a shop weld it on. You just cannot make a decent exhaust without burning a little wire. I made a whole catback system for my old truck using bends and clamps from Advance along with a universal muffler. It was GHETTO, it leaked, looked like crap, but couldn't get the truck in the garage to weld anything, so random hangers and baling wire were used to hold it up.
