Hello All,

Having a litte trouble finding a conclusive answer on whether or not a 1992 civic vx came standard with power steering? I just bought a beater for $800, body is rough but it fires up right away, has a/c and aftermarket cd player so I thought I did pretty well. Also, with the MPG it'll pay for itself in 3 months feeding it instead of my truck. If it did not come with power steering then that's definitley something I can live with. If it did, there's obviously something wrong, leak, fluid, etc. If there is something wrong how much would you estimate to fix a power steering problem ( i know without knowing exactly what's wrong it will be hard to say, just looking for low to high ballpark figures). One last question is I know KBB has the "fair" condition price at just under $1100 but, what are these little gas sippers going for private party where you are? Looks like a great site and thank you in advance for answering my questions !

 

VXs did not come with power steering. It was not available as an option either. (it can be added though with parts from a '92 - '95 Civic that came with power steering though)

 

So your saying you can't even tell if someone's added it?as said above they didn't come from factory with it

@DC4- Sorry if my question was ambiguous. I knew no one added aftermarket PS to the vehicle, I just wanted to know if the came from the factory with PS and it went out. Now that I know they did not come from the factory or as an option from the factory I'm not too worried about it.

 

I would say if it has a power steering pump that would tell you.

 

I should have mentioned that I am not a "car" guy at all so I wouldn't know where to look for it. I can do my own oil, change tires, and a buddy just taught me to do brakes but, anything under the hood is like looking at a bearded clam for the first time, you know you like what you see but you don't really know what to do with it. That's another reason I bought this car. I figured if I break something tinkering around with it it's cheap enough parts to not be too mad at myself and from what I've read they're pretty easy to work on.

Parts are cheap (except the VX O2 sensor, it's 5 wire, wideband and very picky in terms of what you use for a replacement, it's also directly related to the VXs awesome fuel mileage)

These a probably the easiest cars you'll ever find to work on in terms of any sort of a modern multiport fuel injected car.

 

I concur, exact reason why I bought one to commute with and play around with!
