Default Transmission help

So i have a b18a1 in my crx and i recently swapped transmission because my old one was going out. This new one felt great, until i got to 5th. i'm not sure if i have a 4spd trans or 5th gear is just gone?

I can feel it go in to 5th but it just feels like its in neutral. i stopped my car, didn't step on the clutch and tried to put it in 5th, and it went right in.

i had a ys1(non lsd) and i put in an A1 trans.

Also while i took out my old trans, the shift linkage bent really badly but only at the end where the shifter connects. Im not sure if this has anything to do with it but thats just more info.

please help!

Yes all the other gears work just fine. Is it even possible to run a tranny without a 5th gear though? It shifts into 5th like all my other gears but its like putting it in neutral basically.

Yes.

Your 5th gear sounds like its stripped out.

what do you mean "a1" trans? whats that out of? If you mean trans from a b18a1, you can take out the 5th gear i believe from the ys1 and put it in there

yes from a b18a1 but its called a1. theres 3 different types of b18a1 transmissions. a1,ys1,and s1.

Is it really possible to drive a car without a 5th gear in a 5spd transmission though?

lol. dude, i bought a jdm y1 tranny w/lsd for dirt that had no 5th gear. come to find out that the guy i bought it off likely botched an ls 5th gear swap. those gears are the closest ratio of any cable trans. i drove with the 4 gears to and from work on the hwy everyday for 3 months. you'll be alright until you get time to pull it out. the 5th gearset is easy to get at once the trans is out

see i might have figured linkage or selector fork, but since op says it actually goes into 5th gear it pretty much cancels that out

mile will also "go into" but its like i put it in neutral as well..cant hurt to do the linkages and fork first since they are cheaper and easier..

i doubt it's the linkage if it was working fine with the other transmission.
just make sure you have a nice clean open space and keep all parts in perfect order, laid out exactly as they were removed

i mean i wouldn't think the linkage was a factor until i read this thread saying if the linkage is bent, it could be the culprit. It bent pretty bad to a point where i couldn't bolt the shifter in. and yeah thanks for the tip.
