Default Swaps

Alittle Background:
first car i got when i was 16 was a ford escort about a year after owning it i was t-boned and it was totaled and then i picked up a 89' Civic STD for $500 w/ 149k and owned it for about year now, wasn't interested in building it at all but more recently I've gotten into cars.

so, stock my car comes with a D15B1 16V SOHC which produces 70 hp...

i know the B16A2 is pretty popular and the B18C5 if you can find one but love to hear from the community?

tl:dr, so what are the best engine swaps for power that won't break the bank?

p.s. sorry if this is posted alot or in the wrong spot, im new to the site.

hey man! i also have the amazingly fast std...ive been thinking about swaps, obviously. lol. as far as swaps go, im not knowledgeable enough to say " do this, or do that", but i feel that im gonna go either, b16, b18c, b20v, or h22.... preferably the b16 or h22 way, but ive been reading up alot on here, about what works, and what doesnt. theres alot of good info on here, and then you have the d-bags that refuse to help, and say "search the damn topic" so thats my point of view...lol

average price for an h22 in my area goes for 15-2000 that includes motor, tanny, harness, axels .. etc . add another 500 and you got a full h22 swap in my area.

if your looking for more power, and trying not to break the bank , id suggest a b18a1. but thats my 2 cents. you almost double your power and the cost for the swap is fairly small compared to others..

but its up to you , the sky is the limit .

wouldn't a B18a1 swap produce less power than a H22?

The cheapest swap would be a simple Si swap. D16A6 and Si trans. It will move that std just fine. The B18A/B is a fun and cheap B series swap. Just keep your eye out for good deals.

I'll be that guy that asks if google was broken when you asked this.

People have been swapping into this chassis for YEARS, all info is readily available if you take 10 seconds to look for it.

That being said, just swap in a B18A1. It's one of the cheapest swaps available and you'll definitely notice a hell of a difference. IMO, while it's been done numerous times, the H22 isn't all that practical in the EF chassis.

why isnt it practical? from what i have read, its a good swap, it pulls hard, and it isnt all that hard...this is just from what i have read though...lol

H22 in ef's are fast as hell lol. Biggest downside is there is NO room to do anything when the motor is in.

because 90% of the results on Google are yahoo answers that are answered by people who don't know what there talking about. i'd much rather come to one of the most popular honda forums, i would be much more likely to get better, more clear, and correct answers.

another question: my friend has a B18 Out of a GSR swapped into his lower trim Integra and it doesn't seem as powerful as people claim a B18 are, any thoughts or ideas? it burns oil often.

There's a search feature here as well.

There are numerous things that can cause it to burn oil, and most of them will also cause a decrease in performance.

I'd say sohc zc or b18a1 for the most horsepower per dollar.

To OP. This is a very subjective topic and is seen a lot. The best thing is to look in the FAQ of the forum and determine what suits you best. Welcome to the board.
