Default Which intake is the best?

What's the best intake that would make the most amount of power? Brand and what not.

Lol, are you serious?

The best intake can only be determined on the dyno for your particular setup.

An intake is an intake, buy any 3" pipe and put a velocity stack on it.

It's a friggin pipe, no one pipe is better than the other.

true for the most part. but different lengths and sizes will affect the powerband. only way to determine this is on the dyno.

3" ID PVC pipe and a V-stack to test lengths, then buy a metal one and fabricate to optimum length and swap the stack. Game changer.
Also what motor? Some of the larger motors like 3.5" pipes...

3.5'' piping works on b18 really good too

whats been said. also research. there are literally hundreds of these threads in the model specific sub forums.

3-4" pipe, vstack, filter, call it day.
if you have money do dyno runs all day to find the optimum length. but thats not really worth it for what will be a DD.

Off the shelf...
1)Mugen
2)Comptech

Both their designs are similar and extremely effective. Again these are THE best off the shelf intakes and they are pricey. I'm sure you can make more tuning the length of your own design with a velocity stack but after seeing how dirty my filter is after just 15,000 miles there is no way I would be running an open velocity stack on the streets.

3" pipe vstack and a filter. just wont be tuned to length. CAI or SRI your choice.
its an intake not rocket science. you won't notice it and it'll just be louder. 110 bucks tops.

how you got a filter filthy in 15k is beyond me. mine looks like i just took it out and its been there for a year and a half now.

Any DIY threads? Or any ideas of how to pipe this? GSR in a EK.

I beg to differ on not noticing an intake. I can make my intake either a CAI or SRI and I will be the first to say a true SRI is so shitty with heat soak. It starts out nice, then you get some laps and the car feels dull. Hence why the Mugen and Comptech designs are great. You get the throttle response of a short ram but the power of a cold air.

you will NOT notice 1-3hp. ever. beg to differ all you want a butt dyno and more vacuum doesnt make a noticable power difference.

i've had OEM, CAI 2", sri 3", sri 3" with vstack all on the same car. the only difference is between CAI and SRI and is barely so.

if SRI is garbage explain why the optimal length ends up shorter then a SRI usually? you aren't the first to say it but think about it at 60+ miles an hour wind is being pushed into your engine bay(unless you air tight sealed it at sometime) and theres plenty of space around my headlight for cold air to get in. plus the hole for where a CAI would go. theres plenty of cold air for an SRI to use.

if you do get a CAI though AEM v2 is the ONLY way to go.

mugen and comptech are plastic boxes with a filter in them. its OEM all over again at a 1k price tag. if you can find me a third party dyno of a vstack/filter that loses out to a comptech/mugen then i'll believe you. but i doubt you'll find people silly enough to drop 1k on 1-3 hp and no noticable difference.

Cooler air flows through your radiator first thus warming it, go try this concept with a radiator fan. When it's off and your hand is behind it the air is about ambient temperature. When it kicks on there is a blast of heat, why? Because it is pulling air through an object that is 180 degrees and the air is heated that quick. With the hood closed and everything sealed you have the motor itself making heat, an exhaust that produces extremely high heat, and the only air coming in is to cool your radiator, which is heated.

Even at 60MPH I wouldn't doubt if underhood temperatures reach 150 degrees fahrenheit with some spirited or track driving. Now you are telling me you can't notice a difference sucking in 150 degree air vs 90 degree? No need to argue for my sake as I know the outcome of a SRI vs CAI and factual data can be presented favoring my "opinion". I can only assume that you drive a car with very low HP and low efficiency to say that the difference between a 2" intake and 3" intake was basically negligible.

To say the Mugen and Comptech intakes are rubbish is pure ignorance. "plastic boxes with a filter in them. its OEM all over again at a 1k price tag" Disregarding the ITR having a 3" tube OEM, you are telling me the factory setup uses a 3" short ram with a cone filter and tapered inlet in a box that has a 3"+ tube with a velocity stack at the end to get cold air from behind the bumper? How can you deny that it is one of the best designed intake systems available because you get short ram throttle response, and cold air without the worry of hydrolock.
