1993 integra cam plug
i have a 1993 acura integra 1.8L manual. 4cyl.i replaced the valve cover gasket.however i see a bit of oil coming from the round rubber part i think is called the Cam plug(this motor has the hole for the distributor on one side and the hole cover with the plug on other side).my question is how to remove the cam plug?.do i just pull it out?.to install new one do i need gasket maker?
thanks
thanks
i always put a little silicone on my new one just to ensure it dont leak at all, are you replacing it with an OEM one? i use the BLOX ones just bc i like the aluminum and the way they look
There are two styles of cam plugs. What is the number stamped on it?
One looks like this (the efficient one)

(bottom left)
and another looks like this (****)

Black middle one
Chances are you have the second style and If you have the second one, you can just pop it out with a flathead screwdriver. If you have the first one. You need to remove the valve cover gasket and the exhaust cam cap on the tranny side. If you choose to order a new one from honda make sure you get the right one. They changed the style somewhere in between the years to that shitty plastic one, so dealers can just pop it out without removing the cam caps.
My advice would be to go and buy some RTV sealant (Ultra blue or ultra black) for 5$ and just slap some overtop. I have done this on many cars and it holds up fine.
Example

Although he used silicone and I would recommend RTV since its better for high temps. Make sure you clean off the surface nicely before applying it.

BUT...
You MUST follow the correct Honda-approved procedure when installing the new plug, or else it will leak again fairly soon. PM me and I'll send you a copy of the Honda TSB.
Also,
1) turn the engine (BY HAND) so the cam lobes for the #4 cylinder exhaust are pointing straight up to the sky. THEN remove the cam cap. This unloads the camshaft so it won't flex when the cap is removed;
2) tighten the cam cap bolts to 7 ft-lbs only. That's seven ft-lbs. No more.

I believe there are actually 4 bolts holding the cam cap on. 2 at the end of the cam and 2 at the plug.
And...
THEY ARE DIFFERENT LENGTHS!!!!
Do NOT get them mixed up! Make sure they go back in the same holes they came out of!
^^ It makes it easier to take off for one (cause of the pressure of the valve springs), and 2 if you don't, then you really should loosen them all in sequence then tightened back down in sequence so you don't warp the cam.
