Default tie rod and upper ball joint help

Today I began swapping out spindle and knuckles on my crx. When I began to tighten down the tie rod stude with a crown nut it began to spin which made it impossible for me to tighten the crown nut. Also it bagman to do it for the upper ball joint also. Are the studs broken to where I have to replace them or is there a trick to where I can tighten it down?

The stud will spin if you try to tighten it like that. First make sure the threads are not stripped. It is very easy to damage the stud if you improperly disassemble it by banging on the stud. Best way to tighten it is with an impact gun. Otherwise you can try to put pressure on it to see if friction will hold it enough to tighten.

If I use an impact would it damage the stud? And would I b able to use the impact for all the crown nuts on the tie rod, and upper and lower ball joint studs on my crx

As long as your threads are lined up you are fine to use an impact. Infact I would recommend an impact due to them spinning. Just don't over tighten them of course. If you do not have or do not want to use an impact, instead of pulling your ratchet at a smooth pull, pulse your pull, or tap/hit your push. This will give a similiar effect as a impact.

Additionally, putting a jack under you lower control arm, or using a pry bar to pull down on the joints will stiffen them making them less likely to spin.

The issue is always the castle nut. Retap it or buy a new oem one.

To be on the safe side it might be easy to rethread the crown nut and the stud that it goes on. That way it might go on eeasier and i could also use and impact to tighten it down

I worked professionally as a mechanic for several years. Never once have I had to re-tap a ball joint nut.

Well went out side to inspect everything and to see what was stripped and supposingly the crown nut is in good condition. The threads on the end of the tie rod to where it fits into the hub assembly and the upper ball joint threads need to be re-threaded.
