Default P28 ECU not looking for o2?????

I have a crx but engine obd1 so i thought maybe this section would provide better information than the ef.

Car description.
89 crx si
Original 89 SI harness
obd0-obd1 conversion (home-made)
94 B16A

Got it running with a OBD1 P28 ecu. bought it chipped and it ran great. The problem is that my CEL doesnt come on for an oxygen sensor, i dont have one hooked. I have the 4-wire sensor but didnt have a chance to put it in. I noticed it never came on. never. drove a month and still nothing. My CEL works fine. other codes throws if i unplug the vtec solenoid. My service check switch works as well when its grounded.

My question is could my ECU be bad? i have yet to try another ecu. i dont know anyone with a OBD1 ecu. frankly its because everyone got out of the scene. For sure wiring is NOT hooked up because i made the harness myself.
I have tried different chips. even bought a couple and made sure it was not eliminated. still no-go.

so when an ecu is chipped, the ecu stops looking for the oxygen sensor?

i mean i seen programs that are able to turn off o2, vtec speed check, knock etc....

I've bought chips that i HAD made sure the chipper enabled the o2.

Depends on how it was mapped? Normally when you get an ECU chipped you specify the parameters of the MAP. Such as disabling O2 sensors. Did you specify this in your MAP?

If you're not getting any ill effects then leave it alone.

When i ordered the chip, i ordered for an STOCK base map from a P30 ecu. The only thing that was disabled was the Knock sensor.

The car runs fine. Gets about 27-30mpg street/hwy combine. But I live in California where I'm trying to pass the silly smog.

Well it won't pass with a chipped ecu anyway..try a stock ecu and see what happens

why wouldnt it pass? i mean for sure it wont pass a visual inspection IF the smog tech looks at it but its running off of a Stock, not modified P30 basemap.

Also a P30 ecu is not exactly the easiest ecu to find. I am sure if im able to find one, itll run me 200+...
