My oil pan is covered in oil and dirt. The oil pan gasket appears to be leaking some oil. However, my car doesn't leave any oil drips on my garage floor. I was thinking about changing my oil pan gasket this weekend because I have to remove the lower part of my header to replace the gasket (Megan racing). Should I leave my oil pan gasket alone or should I change it while I have the header apart?

 

"if it aint broke dont fix it" seriously though those things are a royal pain to get right...im currently battling one right now but i will win eventually. just keep an eye on your oil level and look under the car everytime you drive away. you can do that from the drivers seat just look when you leave. when it gets bad then replace it. a drop here and a drop there is nothing to worry about unless youre losing a half quart a week like i was then change it.

 

I think that I am going to clean the oil pan really well first and try to identify where the leak is coming from. I keep a close eye on my oil level. It doesn't go down much in between changes.

 

yea i would clean it up first and then just keep an eye on it. If oils starts to protrude again the replace the gasket, luckily its a cheap fix

 

It's really not that hard to fix.. anytime i am aware something is wrong, i fix it.

well, in his defense, the problem may very well not be the pan gasket. oil coming from pretty much anywhere above it will appear to be coming from the pan gasket area. since it will collect and run along the seam. i would definitely clean everything very thoroughly. run it, but don't drive it, and inspect all areas above the pan.

if it does turn out to be the pan gasket, make sure NOT to use a shitty fel-pro replacement as they're made of a terribly soft composition which tears very easily

 

there not that hard to fix but i guess if its not leaking then you dont really need to, but YOU MUST!!! follow the tightening pattern and torque sequence to the T or it will leak
