Can engine running rich make O2 sensor go bad.
just wondering if an engine running rich would make my O2 sensor go bad. I bought the innovate LC-1, I installed it per the instructions and the sensor worked for about a day then it started to throw the error 8 code. The car runs terribly at idle and drops to about 300 rpm, and will sometimes stall. however if I pull the small vacuum plug off the intake the idle increases to 1400, (its tuned to idle at 900) and evens out. So I'm guessing its running rich, but could that cause the O2 sensor to stop working properly. Thanks
if your car is runnng rich the 02 sensor will try to fix it. if the car is still running rich then yes it will kill the sensor ofer sum time of running. was the sensor new?
I had my car running rich for a long time and it never killed my primary o2, basically I tuned the car and seemed to help. Finally I pulled my o2 and it didn't look too bad. Can it kill I am not sure, I know the o2 will compensate for different running conditions, other components might suffer like the cat, plugs, carbon build up in the throttle body etc.
I had code 8 issues with my LC-1 as well after a couple months of use. Its a common problem that can be caused by a few different things. I removed mine and threw it in the bottom drawer of my tool box with all my other junk parts.
