Oil cooler turbo question
I am going to running an oil cooler on my boosted GSR this year. Now my question is that would it be a good idea to run my turbo feed line off of the return side (colder side) of the cooler? This was my plan from the start but because in my eyes I will have oil going into my turbo at a lower temp thus cooling my turbo down. Now on the other hand my buddy is saying that will sludge up my turbo? Any thought on this? Is he full of crap?
From my understanding that is not a good idea....YOu should have a dependent oil line to the turbo. If you are going run a oil cooler i also highly recommend getting a thermostat type of sandwich plate for the oil cooler lines. Otherwise it may never let youre oil temps to get to optimal tempature (climate makes a big difference for this)...Mocal sells them look into it....This will allow the motor to warm up and once its get to i believe 85 C, it opens and allows the oil to run into the oil cooler. This is going to be youre best bet.
Someone else could chime in but my hypothesis would be not to run the oil cooler inline with the oil feed line to turbo. I see youre logic having cooler oil, but i wouldnt do it.

yeah i was looking at one the opened at 70 degrees. I will check out the one you mentioned. I figured that the oil pressure should be fine as long as i use a big enough line. i was thinking -10 line?????
Buy the mocal adapater and run the oil lines independent to the cooler...The turbo feed line should be dedicated to the turbo only. The Mocal adapter may come with a extra port. You could use that to feed the turbo, if it has one.
I also agree with kbouchard and would recommend using a dedicated turbo feed line. Less chance of oil pressure fluctuations that way, and fewer components to fail between the turbo and the oil supply. I have always had good results running the oil cooler in it's own loop.
i personally would find a sandwhich adapter with 4 ports. run one "out" for the oil cooler, and then run it back to the "in" port. then use the other "out" for the turbo oil feed line, and block the extra "in" port. ive always been told this is the best since running the oil feed off the filter housing the turbo is receiving the cleanest oil that has been filtered and hasnt flown through the rest of the motor beforehand.

-10 is a bit big for a turbo feed line, most people run -3 or -4.
