Default QUICK question about mileage???

I am about to pickup a 2001 S2K with 62k miles on it. The dude has owned it for like 7 years and he told me when he bought it that he had to replace the ECU. This may be a stupid question BUT when you change out the ECU does it reset or change the mileage on the odometer in the gauge cluster/dash? Ive never dealt with the digital dash before and I want to make 100% sure that this car has 62k on it before I drop the cash!

Thanks!

No, the mileage is stored within the cluster.

Thanks not a stupid question. Thats good researching on possible fraud. Good Job protecting yourself.

In a Toyota Supra, the gauge plugs are actually separated and you disable JUST the odometer, while everything else will still work. Thats why you can find 95s with 30k mileage on it. They usually pull it so they can have everything covered under warranty even if the car actually has 100k on it.

Did he say why he had to replace the ECU? Sounds a little odd that he would NEED to change the ECU on a car with relatively low miles.

It was a theft recovery. All they took were the wheels, ecu, and radio for some weird reason. But I went ahead and bought it. It states on the title that it only had 44k miles on it when he bought it a few years ago. Now it has 62k. Runs like brand new! I love it!
