Default Cluster/ECU question.

I have a jdm cluster which reads in KMH but i have an obd-2 gsr ecu. Are the miles being read in miles or kilometers? If i have a US ecu does that affect the way the mileage is read? (im talking about mileage as in gas and travel not speed)
