Matching Engine and Trans Serial Numbers
Help, I have become parinoid that the body shop I left my car at for a week swapped transmissions on me. Should the Serial Number off the Engine block match the one on the Transmission (mine do not)? If not is there any other way to tell if the trans is the original?
TIA

The serial number should match up ith the block and head (@ least on japanese swaps), unless this tranny has been replaced (Or mabye the case)???

Sounds like it is time to seek legal actions or "Kick his *** sea bass".

This is the serial number I am talking about right now. Not the VIN. The VIN on the block is correct. But the only numbers I could find on the transmission was the serial number, and looking in the manual I actually think it is correct that it is different than the serial number on the block. I am not sure where the VIN on the trans is located, I have not had a chance to climb under the car yet and look from that angle.
Any advice in verifying the transmission is the orginal would be apperciated.

Well, I should be ok if the VINS, match. Assuming they just did not pull the vin plates off and put them on the other trans.

Well, I have to come to the conclusion that I am just being parinoid. I jacked up the car and spun one tire, the other rotated in the opposite direction. I can't imagine that they would swap the trans with another with an LSD. I can only attirbute the difference in the way the car seem to be running to the loss of ~50lbs and a resetting of the ecu.

I think I know your problem, you are comparing the VIN on the tranny housing to the block serial number above the B18C5 stamp.
The VIN on the engine block is on a green tag hidden behind the header and looks just like the tranny VIN.
