edm 00 civic/d14z4 will not start - injectors don't spray fuel
Hey guys hope you all had a good Christmas and a happy new year!
Ok I have just purchased a edm 2000 plate Honda civic 1.4 which is a mb2 chassis code. It has the d14z4 engine it was listed as having a distributor fault, I towed the car home to get stuck into it but I am stumped. When i turn the key the ecl light comes on and goes out, the fuel pump primes and cranks over but will not start. I have tested the main relay on my vti and it starts the car fine. Here is what I have done.
The main relay clicks fine and the fuel pump primes, ecl goes out after a few seconds as does the green immobiliser key, I have replaced everything inside the distributor twice, including the cap and rotor, the timing is fine, there is 12v going to the injectors but when cranking the car over the injectors do not inject. With the ignition on I have checked the voltage on ecu pins a1,2,3 and 4 and the ground at a23 and this also reads 12v and still refuses to start, I am starting to think the ecu is fried, can anyone help me. Have you checked whether the timing belt snapped? For example, when cranking the engine, does the rotor in the distributor turn? Remove the 15A hood ECU fuse when you do the latter test to avoid blowing the coil.
Is there bright white spark at all four spark plugs?

Hey Ron cheers for changing the title I tried to do that but failed. The timing belt is fine, I have checked it, it gets spark also, I sprayed easy start into the inlet and fired then died, the injectors do not click while cranking but when I earth the ground wire on the injector they click. Could it be an ecu fault.
Do you have an OBD2a or OBD2b ECU?
You need to check all power and ground wires to the ECU. If all are fine, swap in a known good ECU and hope it fires up.

This has 2 grey and 1 blue plug on the ecu, which I believe is obd2a where as my mb6 is a 2000 and that is obd1. Stuart
For OBD2a:
Test A11, A16, A24 (ECU connector A) for battery voltage to body ground.
Test A9, A10, A22, A23 (ECU connector A) for continuity to body ground.
If those are fine, swap in a known good ECU and cross your fingers.

I had to go digging back through some old PMs and it turns out I was a little off, the car in question was a '95, so OBD1 but with a weird almost OBD2 style harness. Here's a link to thread it was in. I don't have any pinout info on it and I really don't know anymore about it now than I did then. At the time I'd PMed Katman about it and he couldn't tell me much either (If he doesn't know it's doubtful anyone else in north america would either

OP, post a picture of your ECU. It may help us identify your OBD system.
Thanks Ron, same goes to you
Please do this if you are able. Sometimes Euro stuff is weird compared to just about anything else, it's not always consistent like the North American stuff.
