Default Please guys i need some advice

i own a 97 accord 2.2L vtec auto tranny 150k miles
basically i dont have the cash to spend so ive been driving with tranny problems, it slips and it only goes up to 2nd or 3rd gear so ive been driving it like that around town only getting to 30mph at 3k rpms yesterday i got fed up nd dropped it off at a shop today i go back to see whats wrong they said the tranny's burnt and to REBUILD IT and put in a new torque converter is gonna cost me $2000 i thought that was way to excessive considering thats what i paid for the car, i guess my question is if you were in my place what would you do? could one try to replace the tranny yourself?

Before I can suggest anything, I would need to know how the rest of the car is. AC still work? Any major maintenance completed or needed?

Change the trans fluid, it may cure your slipping problem.

I would try to rebuild it or source a new tranny from a scrap yard

Call up any local importers of Japanese sourced engines/transmissions.
Snag a ~30-45K mile unit for ~$600.
Install it yourself, become a boss.

Yeah, you just need a set of tools and deep sockets. You can get them at Walmart. You can usually rent a 31 mm axle nut socket from most auto parts stores.

Mike has a link to the installation in his sig.

You will need a second jackstand though.
