Default Building a D series.

I'm trying to tackle building a d series, on my own with the help of honda-tech and the internet, and occationally from an experienced honda mechanic.

Is it worth it to buy new pistons and rods for the motor? will they add torque or horsepower....or is there luster only in being shiny and new.

I'm slightly in the dark here, thank you.

Part of me wants to sleeve and boost the **** out of it, but I think with limited funds I would want to spend money on good suspension.

And does anybody know of a good place to get a cam from, or is it not worth getting one after market?

one step at a time first u gotta crawl before you walk. i depends on your goals. what internals u decided to put in it should be based on what ur project is going to be for such as supercharger,turbo,nitrous,N/A? rods are and can be shot peened or forged and stronger to accept more boost. stock sleeves are good for 400hp. which is enough for a street car. RESEARCH FIRST the're are many builds that are through on here.

not for nothing here, but if you really want to learn begin by reading the first few pages of this forum, in it in says.....over and over and over and over....

Hondas dont have torque...nothing you can do will get you torq --especially a D series.
You could Cam the motor, however the gains would be not worth it money wise. Pistons and Rods as well, maybe if you just want to get the motor healthy---but for any speed gain, not going to be worth it.

The D series is a great motor...for what it was designed for (econo-box) for speed, its cheaper to swap in a b/h/K series..(well not cheaper for the K, but a better platform )

If your dead set on getting a cam (with little to no performance gain) check the marketplace/fleabay....

If you are serious about this build do you have a guideline for how much money you can spend? Also what car is this going into? I always wanted to build a d series and I have done a lot of research and talking to guys at tuner shops.. haha I do not know everything obviously but I'd love to help
