K20a2 Valve Spring Question
Hey guys, I picked up a k20a2 swapped eg hatch a couple months back and last week the head gasket started leaking so I decided to replace it as well as installing ARP headstuds. When I got the car, the previous owned told me it was stock other than the ASP header and intake, but when I removed the IM I found a hondata IM gasket and when I started taking apart the head I saw dual valve springs on both the intake and exhuast side...what I'm wondering is why are there dual valve springs on both? I've been reading that the 02's had duals on both sides but the 03's only have them on the exhaust side and this motor is an 03 so how do I tell if they're aftermarket or not? there is paint on the top of each spring, red on the exhaust side and blue or green, I can't remember, on the intake side. thanks
you have the head off. What is the head stamping say? Any pictures? Most aftermarket companies tend to put their name on their parts.. I know my toda retainers and springs did and my buddies BC parts do..
I am rebuilding an bone stock 2003 k20a2 at the moment and it has dual valve spings for the exhaust and red paint on them and single valve springs on the intake side with yellow paint on them. Hope I could help
thanks man, I'm assuming the guy lied to me and this is actually a 2002 motor since it has dual springs on both sides haha thanks for the help!
hey guys, my names adam. and heres my problem... i hope this is a good place to start asking this... but! i am also building my K20a2.. and i am trying to mimic a build i saw a fellow EP'er do.... and i saw a list of things he did to achieve his build... and one thing for the valves was "Supertech Valvetrain" can you tell me what this would exactly entail? i really apriceate it guys, again, im not to mechanical... just love my EP.
Supertech is the brand, an affordable brand that gets the job done. And the "valve train" would be the valve springs, retainers, and valves. How many miles are on the head? What cam are you planing on using? All determines what you should use! Good luck and I'm glad to help as much as i can adam
