Have a 00' civic dx w/ 79k miles. Car has been great, no problems whatsoever until now. Car makes a whining noise when i turn the key and sounds like it wants to turn over and start.

Spark plugs were wet and would not spark; battery, fuses in the engine bay and under dash were checked and good, grounds checked, no check engine light. Tried jump starting the car with cables with no luck.

Spark plugs, wires, and air filter were changed 2 months ago.

What else could i check before towing my car to the dealership and having them check the timing belt?

 

searched similar threads and videos and plan on checking my ignitor and coil tomorrow, any other suggestions?

 

distributor, cap and rotor. Check that.

 

check the coil and don't tow it to the stealership waste of like 500 dollars if not more..

if u are not getting spark its most likely ur distributor ur timing belt does not have to do anyting with this since the car stood

also to check if ur timing belt is ok just take off the valvecover and turn the motor over manually with a 19mm ratchet there is a bolt behind the driver side wheel has a little star shaped punch out turn it and if the timing belt turns ur fine doubt the car skipped timing or anyting just sitting there

test the coil first with a multimeter

 

Give more information about the whining noise. Does the starter crank/turn the engine at an adequate rpm?

Is dash fuse 9 blown?

 

Checked the ignition coil, had spark which made me believe it was the rotor and cap. Fires up now!
