93 Del Sol SI won't start. even with new starter.
Ok Folks I need some help.
I have a 93 Del Slo SI. it ran just fine for the longest time. had trouble starting occasionally, but mostly because I kept forgetting to turn off the damn lights and the battery died all the time.
I parked it for a month or two, tried to start it...it would try to start, but engine never fired up.
Finally in an act of desperation, I wacked the starter and the alternator with a screw driver handle..not terrible hard..but hard enough.
Lo and behold the damn thing started. I drove it around the block to make sure everything was fine. came back, pulled into driveway, and shut her down.
Then I tried to start back up again...nothing. No noise, no clicks, nothing. Dash lights come on, headlights, AC, radio, everything works. but nothing when turning key.
bought new starter thinking that was the problem. swapped out, still same thing. NOTHING.
had old starter tested, and it worked..so damn...wasted money to swap a working starter.
so next step I'm going to replace the pos/neg cables from the battery to starter/motor.
what else could it be?
I've tried jumping...same thing..NOTHING happens no noise no clicks.

+1 on having your battery tested. Also as you are already planning to do it seems, check your battery connections and terminals and make sure everything is clean and secure.
If NOTHING happens, it def sounds like a connection/grounding issue.

yeah, I swapped the battery last month to a new one...didn't help.
I also had a battery tender plugged in knowing that I wouldn't be able to get around to fixing the stupid thing..
and also, like I said. I did try jumping too.

Located at the top of the clutch pedal. Sometimes the little "stopper" thing will break/fall out...and prevent the switch from being pressed. Therefore resulting in the car not starting. (no noise/click/etc.) Here is a thread I found...hopefully it will help a little more...
To see if its the prob or not I think you can reach up under there and press the little switch down and have someone try and start it.

Haha..yea..my buddy had this problem on his del sol...he was testing the battery - tried his known good starter from his daily 4 door - and finally got it narrowed down to the CSS. The funny thing is the very next day his brothers CSS failed on his 95 coupe. Weird! But yea...try that out and see if works for you.

it was indeed the fawking clutch safety..
note the gaping hole where the stopper/grommet should have been.
