Default Need advice on rebuilding and swapping a craigslist d16z6 into a 95 EJ2

So I found this motor on craigslist, texted the guy and he said he replaced it because it had low compression in cylinder 1 but it was still running. It was a OBO (its the block and head with vc and oil pan) so i just threw the # out there 150$ and he said sure.

So now I have a d16z6 in the trunk of my 95 ej2. I was thinking about getting a motor to rebuild since the d15 is getting up there in miles. I have been reading ALOT here but figured i'd post here to figure out some things.

First was that a fair price for the motor I picked up?

Next, I have no experience building engines but I think i'd like to mess around with this one and try considering I wont need it right away. I don't really know where to start, trying to figure out how much more it might cost me to build it up a little stronger vs. what it might cost me to redo it oem style, (id like to do a turbo build but i may stay away from it since im in cali and its a pain for smog) or if i even need to rebuild it at all (find problem with low comp 1 cylinder?) Also is there a build geared to improving MPG of the motor?

For the swap what I (think) I have figured out is all I need is the wiring harness, ecu and distributor for a d16z6 (wouldnt require any tuning if stock?)

sorry for the long first post..

Ya its a fair price.. They run about 200 for a whole running D16Z6

The turbo D series guys are starting to buy up all the blocks so get them while you can

Fix that compression problem first
Probably worn rings/valves/warped head/block

I think you wasted $150.

If I lived in Cali and owned a Honda...I would move out ASAP! That place sucks!! I don't even have to have emissions where I am at...and I'm like 20 miles from the city! (ATL)

I think 150 was reasonable...it wasn't a waste.

I would just rebuild it OEM - and go from there....turbo or whatever.

I think it's a waste if you try to run it in the condition it is now and not rebuild it. If you think for one hot second you DON'T need to rebuild it then just go ahead and run it. In a few days/weeks/months you'll be back talking about how you blew the engine.
