Default dohc zc or d15b vtec cant decide.

Want to get the peppiest d motor from the factory and also since I'm already converted to obd1. Not thinking about the z6/y8 motors caus of there high mileage and don't want to rebuild. Also not looking to be the fastest, just some power to get through traffic and occasional runs.

I would recommend Y8 v-tec but what's the problem with one? 150k on a honda is just getting started on the motor. Personally I had a y8 v-tec and now I have DOHC ZC. Both have awesome power. I wanted to move away from v-tec so I now have a the ZC. It's all in what you're looking for, like is it gonna just be your DD, are DD and some track....are you interested in v-tec? do you just want it all N/A or do you want some small boost?

I will be shooting a 55 shot since I got a bottle and I have bolt ons with act clutch 7lb flywheel that flywheel really helps tho but just want more top end. Vtec don't matter like I said a d15b vtec or dohc zc. I here those d15b's r just as quick as a y8. Its a dd.

Well if those are the two you really want to choose from then the question would be if you really want v-tec or not. My ZC seems to be just as quick at my friends B18a1. All I have done is a intake with a 7 pound flywheel and my friend has intake and exhaust. Given his gears are shorter than mine so he came rip from off the line but the power is almost identical. Personally I like my ZC compared to the Y8 I had.....I do miss v-tec sometimes but I feel that my ZC has more torque but the down fall is I think it's about 4k rpm's until you really see all of the 130 hp. But my final build is gonna be for low boost so I don't feel like sacrificing v-tec was in vain.

yes, sohc ZC non-VTEC was available in OBD1 - came in 92-95 JDM Integra ZX1

why even consider the SOHC ZC? - the OBD1 DOHC ZC is a much better choice - the stock DOHC ZC is much quicker than any stock SOHC D-series engine, non-VTEC or VTEC, especially when coupled with Si or ZC transmission

Had no idea good to know there is sohc zc obd1. And that's also what I'm looking for the quickest stock d to drop in my 91 hatch. I will also be doing the zc trans with si fd. I have an si trans now its ok but I hate that it drops low when shifting to 3rd. I hear the zc trans will take care of that. I haven't seen any dynos of dohc zc's n/a reaching 140whp just around 130s. I've seen d15b's go up to 140s on stock block.

yeah, they do. I have a zc vtec in my 91 ef. Had a d15b vtec in it before. Power wise they are about the same, but I didn't have to downshift as much to get the power out of the zc vtec.
