Default normal to bave a dip before vtec?

i have a jspec itr motor and when i get on the gas, i can feel a lack of power right before vtec kicks in, somewhere in the range of 4500-5500 rpm.. it seems like the engine just gets lazy around that rpm and vtec kicks in hard.. why does it do this? im running pos us 4-1 dc headers, ls cat, 2-1/4" cat back. Should i change to the jdm headers where its 2.5" collector and carsound 2.5" cat with 2.5" catback? running vafc with tuning should also solve this problem.. does anyone else experience this too?

check your plugs, distributor cap, rotor, and wires.

also, since it was a jap spec motor, buy some injector cleaner and dumb it in the gas tank when full.

Yeah, do a basic check of wires and oil ex. Most of the time it is something small or just your amagination.

The VAFC and tuning should do the trick. Adding the bigger header and cat won't eliminate it, will just help your top end.
